The plunging price of oil has seen a major surge in orders at industry-leading British stove and cooker manufacturer ESSE.
Demand for its oil-fired cookers and central heating boilers has risen 30 per cent in recent weeks as consumers turn to the fuel to take advantage of its cheap price.
It’s a far cry from just a decade ago when orders of oil-fired models fell to almost nothing as rural householders turned to the more economic fuels of the time such as wood and gas.
But, with the price of heating oil now at around 26p a litre, and with little sign of any increase, households that aren’t hooked onto the national gas supply network are looking at the tried and trusted technology ESSE offers.
Television presenter Kate Humble is one of those customers that have turned to ESSE for an oil-fired range cooker. She has just had one installed at her family’s farmhouse home in Monmouthshire.

“The demand is being fuelled by the low price of oil that we continue to see. It has been a dramatic fall and it has opened up opportunities for householders who wouldn’t have considered oil-fuelled cookers and central heating in the past.
“Farmhouses and rural homes were ripping out oil models and scrapping their oil tanks a decade ago because of the high cost of the fuel.
“Now it’s become a real alternative to gas for many and that’s borne out by our rising order book.”
