I`m making Biscoff-stuffed brownies at the moment, they`re just in the oven baking - I`ll pop a picture and recipe on later.
I enjoyed using my three vintage mixing bowls, there`s something about these old bowls, imagining the people who used them before me, and what they made in them. I also wanted to show you the two lovely TG Green Cornishware jug and storage jar I got in the charity shop yesterday, I love the colour, they seem a lighter blue than my new Cornishware.
The house is smelling lovely and homely with the sweet waft of brownies, I`d better go and check on them!

Un immense merci atelier_noir_ebene d’avoir transformé nos rêves en réalité.
Notre seul regret :: le lait de chaux Farrow & Ball (malgré six ou sept couches on a toujours l’impression que les murs sont bruts), mais on l’aime quand même d’amour notre cuisine.

Ahead of what’s to come, I’m glad this room is completed. Who knew it’s where I spend most time these day. 🤷🏿♀️ Preparing for a certain someone’s birthday next week, so will be attempting to make a birthday cake with Cookie. This could also be a good opportunity to prepare some meals in advance that I can pop in the fridge/freezer so neither one of us has to prepare or cook anything... I’m imaging our hands are going to be pretty full in the coming weeks. Does anyone have any meal prep suggestions or favourites. This is me trying to remain calm and prepare myself for baby’s arrival.

Our Esse stove is heart of the kitchen and was the catalyst for the colour scheme we chose for this room. We didn’t want an Edwardian kitchen, which were back then rather drab and utilitarian. But we didn’t want a high shine modern stainless steel kitchen either. We wanted something in between, either old fashioned cabinetry with modern appliances, or modern cabinets and old fashioned appliances. At the time this house was built Esse was the leading stove manufacturer in Europe. Even though it looks like it could date back to day the house was built, it’s actually quite a modern affair with an induction hob alongside the traditional hot plate.

I`ve been giving "Dolly" my esse1854 stove a little clean, she`s gleaming again ✨
I wanted to show you my old yellow stool, it`s one of my most treasured possessions - it was my dad`s, he`d have been 100 years old gone Tuesday. He used this for all sorts of jobs around the house, you can see where he has sawn 🪚 into it whilst cutting wood, but I remember him using it the most as a little side table to eat his tea 🍽️🫖☕ off! It`s been well used, and now loved by me 💛 I love it`s old chippy paint, it`s part of its charm.

Good morning, sexy.
I have sausages sizzling in my hot Esse wood cookstove, coffee percolating above (by the way, properly percolated coffee is THE best coffee, bar none), and that gorgeous fieldcompany skillet cooking up some buttery eggs graciously delivered fresh to us by our generous hens.
The more I use the Field skillet, the more I love it. I’m buying the jumbo size next because when I cook, I cook. My other cast iron is all vintage and I will forever adore it, but I haven’t stopped being impressed by what a new company has been able to achieve in comparison to the quality of cast iron I have been cooking with for decades. I’ve heard back from so many of you that went out and bought some after my last post and are really enjoying it, too. That makes me so happy. So many people get put off by crappy tools, like the cheap cast iron out there, and go back to poison pans. Don’t do it, there’s a better way! (By the way, that sounds like an ad, but it’s just me sharing good stuff). When I wrote my post on cookware, a few of you had some questions. What do I use for cooking utensils? In the pictures. What do I use for baking sheets and the like? I use enamel sheets, cast iron, and glass/ceramic, also in the pictures.
I also got asked about avoiding parchment paper because of the gross GMO soy (yes, it’s in that stuff they market as a healthy alternative to the bleached stuff) or the petroleum derivative it’s coated in. Just do what was always done previous to the last ten years or so, rub your pan down in fat and use some elbow grease to clean it. Dirty sausage pan included for effect.
For everything else I use cast iron and enamel coated iron/steel so that it’s non-reactive. Enamel is not ceramic, it’s enamel. I avoid stainless steel, aluminum, whatever polyflurocarbon is in the latest kitchen gizmo, and, obviously, anything coated in nonstick poison. Now, back to the task at hand - feeding my man and sitting in front of a fire for a little reading. Today was blocked off as a “slow day” so slow is what it shall be.
